how stella got her blog back
Posted by admin on March 17th, 2008 filed in metaLook, it wasn’t easy. Network Solutions really loved having silvershoe.com under their ancient wing and didn’t really want to give it up. I registered the domain there eight years ago when there were literally no other decent registrars to choose from (or else I was just scared of godaddy, because I think they might have been around back then) and I just kept paying their renewal fees to keep the domain safe.
I have a strange sentimental attachment to this domain because it was the first domain I ever registered… try explaining that to NetSol. My reg was about to expire this month and it was time to do the dreaded domain registration transfer – something that I’ve never actually done before, believe it or not. In the time since I had registered silvershoe.com in the year 2000, I had moved, changed my email address, and changed my last name. In order for me to unlock the domain for transfer to another registrar, I had to fax NetSol a copy of my driver’s license, a copy of a recent utility bill, AND a copy of my marriage certificate. I shit thee not. It was ridiculous. In the end, my transfer went through and I got silvershoe.com safely home to dreamhost. Yay! I’m back!
