Look, it wasn’t easy. Network Solutions really loved having silvershoe.com under their ancient wing and didn’t really want to give it up. I registered the domain there eight years ago when there were literally no other decent registrars to choose from (or else I was just scared of godaddy, because I think they might have been around back then) and I just kept paying their renewal fees to keep the domain safe.

I have a strange sentimental attachment to this domain because it was the first domain I ever registered… try explaining that to NetSol. My reg was about to expire this month and it was time to do the dreaded domain registration transfer – something that I’ve never actually done before, believe it or not. In the time since I had registered silvershoe.com in the year 2000, I had moved, changed my email address, and changed my last name. In order for me to unlock the domain for transfer to another registrar, I had to fax NetSol a copy of my driver’s license, a copy of a recent utility bill, AND a copy of my marriage certificate. I shit thee not. It was ridiculous. In the end, my transfer went through and I got silvershoe.com safely home to dreamhost. Yay! I’m back!
