Speed Racer + Prince Caspian

For the record, Sam and I went to see Speed Racer on Tuesday night and we LIKED it. A LOT. I was confused as to why so many reviews were so abysmal. I mean, it was surrealistic and candied, but what the hell is wrong with that? People need to lighten the hell up, that’s all I’m saying.

Now on the other hand, the new Narnia movie sucked. A LOT. Seriously, don’t go see it. It was boring. Beautiful and boring. Our friend Karina has the perfect review of Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian on her site. I agreed with every word of her assessment. About halfway through I was just completely bored and annoyed, and it was the first time I had ever considered walking out of a film due to sheer boredom. It was a weird feeling, because the film is certainly lovely, and there’s a certain strategy used during a battle scene that I thought was pretty cool, but the movie was REALLY long and just not worth the time or money. Too bad, I was ready to love it.
I rented Stealing Beauty and watched it on Wednesday (about 12 years late, since it came out in 1996). I loved it. The one thing I hated was Lucy’s poetry… it was totally abysmal, and the way they would impose it over the picture was distracting and pointless. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the story, setting, characters, and pace.
Next I’m going to watch Across the Universe.

I don’t think speed racer will be my thing since I don’t care for the cartoon or for cars in general. Narnia, however. What a drag to hear it sucks ass. Oh well. What about the new Dr. Jones flick?

I still need to see Speed Racer. I was supposed to see it last weekend, but out schedule got a bit hectic. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll go this weekend.
