About Me
My name is Cecily, and silvershoe.com is my personal web space, established March 2000. I started this site right after the big “weblogs panel” of SXSW 2000 and wrote regularly for 3 years. I stopped writing at silvershoe.com shortly after my dad passed away in 2003. I didn’t feel comfortable writing about anything or sharing what I was going through at that time. It was too overwhelming and it somehow didn’t feel right. I tried making other blogs, published elsewhere on the web, with different names, but none of them “took.” I just wasn’t into it anymore. The site was offline for about 5 years.
In starting my site up again, I am hoping to enjoy the web the way I did when I was blogging regularly in the past. I am only blogging for fun, not for hits or popularity. I know that my blogging style is not particularly focused and is probably only appealing to friends who know me personally, and that’s okay.
Back in the day, so many people asked me why I had a personal web page. Basically, I think everyone has something to say, and I love the idea that it’s so easy to create something that is vivid and alive and available worldwide to anyone with a computer. I love that I can do a search for “when I was five” and come up with hundreds of personal stories from people across the world. I hope my site comes up in one of your random searches. That’s what I’m here for.
